Independent IT superintendent · Vessels of any size
The owner's representative for vessel IT.
Vendor-neutral by design. We sell no hardware and take no integrator margin, so when a quote is padded or a spec is oversized, we can say so.
The stance
Paid by the owner. Never by the supplier.
The maritime industry has owner's representatives for hull, machinery and newbuild supervision. Almost nobody offers it for IT — the part of a vessel most often mis-specified and over-bought. We do.
We plan, specify, select vendors, oversee the work and stay on afterwards. Execution goes to integrators. We're the technical brain on your side of the table.
Vessel handover
You've just bought a vessel
The previous operator leaves with the passwords, licences and vendor contracts. Someone has to run that handover before month three finds the gaps.
Newbuild & conversion
You have a newbuild or conversion at a yard
IT gets specified last, by people optimising for the build contract rather than twenty years of operation. Being in the room before the cable trays are fixed is worth more than any remediation afterwards.
Connectivity review
Your connectivity contract is up for renewal
Starlink, VSAT and hybrid contracts are opaque by design. The three-year difference between a good deal and a bad one is large, and no vendor will show you the comparison.
Cyber compliance
Class is asking about cyber
IACS UR E26/E27 and IMO MSC.428(98) turned vessel cyber from a policy document into a condition of class. The inventory it requires is exactly the thing almost nobody has.
Fleet IT retainer
You have a fleet and no IT department
Small operators can't justify a full-time IT manager and currently get nothing — every decision defaults to whichever vendor is on the phone. A fractional fleet IT manager fixes that.
Something else
Not sure which of these you're in?
Describe the situation. If it's not something we should do, we'll say so and point you somewhere useful. →
Field notes
Working documents, written from the deck rather than the brochure. Forward them.
Who
A small group of working maritime IT practitioners, assembled per engagement. No permanent overhead on your invoice.
Where
Wherever the vessel is. Yards, refit periods, handovers at the quay — remote for the reviews, on board for the rest.
What we don't do
Sell equipment. Resell airtime. Take a referral fee. Recommend a supplier we'd earn from.
